Maintenance Tips for FRP Manhole Covers

Maintaining FRP manhole cover is straightforward, thanks to their inherent durability. Start with regular inspections—check for cracks, wear, or debris buildup every six months, especially in high-traffic areas. Clean surfaces with mild soap and water to remove dirt or chemicals; avoid abrasive tools that could scratch the finish. For stubborn stains, a soft brush works well without damaging the composite. Ensure locking mechanisms, if present, are lubricated annually with a non-corrosive agent to prevent jamming. In flood zones, verify seals and gaskets remain intact to maintain watertightness—replace them if they show signs of wear. Avoid heavy impacts during snow removal or construction, as excessive force can compromise load capacity over time. If lifting is needed, use proper tools to prevent edge damage, given FRP’s lighter weight. Unlike iron, FRP doesn’t rust, so painting or sealing isn’t required, saving time and cost. With these simple steps, FRP covers can last decades with minimal upkeep, maximizing their value.
